![]() Released on on PC, PS4, Xbox, and Switch, Huntdown is absolutely dripping with 80’s nostalgia, tunes, and vibes, showing you the best (or worst) of what the 80’s had to offer. Created by Easy Trigger Games and led by developers Andreas Rehnberg and Tommy Gustafsson, Huntdown manages to harness all of the challenging aspects like other modern side-scrollers, but maintains that satisfying feeling of success. It is the inventive and creative boss battles like these which give Huntdown a similar style of epic charisma like No More Heroes.Huntdown is a gritty, action-packed side-scroller that demands accuracy, quick-thinking, and lightning-fast reflexes. The boss design is strong and memorable right from the first battle, and one of the most notable comes early on, taking place inside a wrestling ring against a masked villain who sounds exactly like Macho Man Randy Savage… Oooo yeah. These battles are the main meat of the game and they’re so fun too, with each boss being more interesting than the last – there are a lot of battles to go through before you’re done with the game. The level design is generally interesting and focused, and each of the stages rarely ever outstay their welcome before it’s time to engage in the boss battle. Huntdown is a boss rush game through and through, and it’s really good at it too. Each bounty mission starts off as a bite-sized level featuring some intense platforming and shooting action, before it’s time to step into battle with the bounty target serving as the boss encounter. That’s basically what the game is built around: boss battles with bounties. Once you select a bounty hunter from the cast of misfits, you’re on your way to, well, hunt down a cast of oddball villains, each with a chip on their shoulder and a handsome price-tag on their head. The soundtrack adds to the epic presentation also, filled with duelling synthesizers and epic guitars to create a powerful sense of atmosphere throughout. I’m pretty sure there’s a Kurt Russel lookalike somewhere in the game’s code too. Excellent voice acting complements beautifully animated pixel cutscenes to really make it feel like you’re watching an action sci-fi film from the ’80s. Although the premise is quite simple, the actual presentation of the story and setting is rather lavish, where the production values most certainly feel like they’re high-end. ![]() The only way to make an honest and independent living is by working freelance as a bounty hunter, which is where the player comes in. Huntdown takes place in an 80’s neon cyberpunk world where corrupt corporations rule the lands. ![]() Huntdown may draw from a few inspirations here and there, but the sum of all these parts come together to create a very unique whole. There’s a nice sprinkling of Metal Slug found in the shooting action too, with a healthy dose of hidden Mega Drive classic, Demolition Man – yep, a game based on the film of the same name starring Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone. Huntdown on Xbox One, whether intentionally or unintentionally, draws upon the core gameplay design of Elevator Action Returns in many ways, especially with the intuitively effective cover system. This was a 2D shooter platformer featuring incredibly detailed sprites, and shooting action where a cover system mechanic came into play – a system that wouldn’t be as popular in 3D gaming until the original Gears of War rolled in on Xbox 360. Back in the good old days of SEGA Saturn, especially during the magical period of Saturn imports which created a niche club of sorts, there was a game called Elevator Action Returns, a spiritual sequel to the 80’s arcade classic Elevator Action.

For example, you can tap a cat to bathe them, cut their nails, or pet them to earn more love. Unlike Neko Atsume, Adorable Home has minigames connected to animals. If you leave, then come back, there is a chance you could acquire new “Moments” photographs of your pets and characters doing cute things. You then can start acquiring Love, the game’s currency, by feeding Snow and making lunches for your partner. After that, you find yourself in a new, relatively empty home with your partner and your first cat, Snow. In Adorable Home, players first pick their avatar from an assortment of different options, then choose a second person to act as their partner. This is another entry in the “wait and see” sort of games where people pop in, perform a few actions to earn currency and check in on their surroundings, then go about the rest of their day until they feel like visiting again. After a brief stint in a beta phase on Android devices, Hyperbeard’s Neko Atsume–like Adorable Home game has officially launched on both Android and Apple iOS devices. ![]() ![]() Phew, with that many Fallout 4 console commands to play with that should be enough to keep you busy until the radiation finally dissipates. ArenaNet, developers of popular MMO Guild Wars 2, clearly wanted to make an example of alleged cheater J T Darkside before banning the account, ArenaNet took direct control of the character, stripped him naked, threw him off a high tower, logged out and deleted the character. ![]() The MIDI editing tools in DP are superior, IMO. You can live a long and happy life with DP, without ever opening a Environment Window. That matters a lot if you're working with it all day. Despite big improvements with Logic X, the user interface is still nowhere as good and as flexible as DPs. There are no DAWs that do a really good job of conforming a tempo map to freely recorded music, but DP gives a more predictable result if the music is reasonably well played. You're pretty much dependent on experienced users on forums. I doubt anyone at Apple has ever helped a Logic user with a problem. MOTU supports DP better than Apple supports Logic. ![]() DP has an elegant means of handling multiple sequences. That could change with the next Logic X.x update, but for now, whenever I use Logic, there will be something that doesn't work as expected, and you just don't know if it's a user error or a bug. Logic is easier to deal with if you're doing a lot of bounces. Logic makes it easier to set up VIs although that comes with some limitations. ![]() I think the sounds are excellent given the price. Logic's included sounds and players, especially EXS24 can be very quick and convenient if you want simple tunes that sound slick. Logic is cheap and everywhere, everyone can do something with it, and third party stuff will work with it more often (with the exceptions noted below). I use DP if I have a simple choice, but from watching how others work, I think the preference depends a lot on what sort of work you're doing, and which one can most easily and quickly do what you want.Ī few things I experience on a regular basis: I use both regularly mainly because people I work with use Logic, so it's hard to avoid. |
